axe-core remediation workflow
How to turn axe-core JSON into a developer remediation backlog
An axe-core scan gives you useful evidence. The next problem is operational: deciding what engineering work to create, what evidence must stay attached, and how a developer or reviewer knows a fix is complete.
1. Keep the scanner evidence as the source of truth
Do not replace deterministic scan facts with generated summaries. Preserve the rule ID, impact, WCAG tags, affected selector or target, failure summary, and relevant HTML or other evidence supplied by the scan. That gives engineers a traceable path back to the finding and makes later retesting easier.
2. Normalize findings before prioritizing them
Real reports can contain repeated violations and multiple affected nodes. Normalize the data into a stable finding shape first. Then prioritize using the source severity or impact plus engineering context. Avoid inventing certainty the scanner did not provide.
3. Group related work without losing individual findings
Grouping can reduce ticket noise—for example, repeated instances caused by one shared component may belong in one work package. Keep the underlying findings attached so the team can verify every affected occurrence rather than treating a grouped summary as proof that all instances are fixed.
4. Add implementation guidance, not compliance promises
A useful remediation ticket explains the likely engineering change and gives enough context to start work. It should not claim that an automated result establishes WCAG conformance, ADA compliance, or a complete accessibility audit. Automated testing is one input to a broader accessibility practice.
5. Define acceptance criteria and a retest
Each work item should answer two questions: what observable behavior must be true after the change, and how should the team verify it? Retest the relevant automated rule after implementation and include appropriate manual or assistive-technology checks when the behavior cannot be established by automation alone.
See the engineering handoff before you buy
Review a representative remediation work item showing preserved scanner evidence, developer guidance, acceptance criteria, and retest steps. The sample is illustrative rather than a fabricated customer result.
Use your existing axe-core report
If you already have axe-core JSON, you do not need another scan to use A11y Ticket Engine. The service validates the report before checkout and converts accepted findings into a developer-oriented remediation plan.
Turn my axe-core report into a planScope and limits
A11y Ticket Engine is a remediation-planning tool, not an accessibility audit, WCAG conformance certification, ADA determination, or legal service. Automated findings do not detect every accessibility barrier; appropriate manual testing remains important.
